The use of evidence-based medicine tools for the assessment of new technologies and the focus on patient safety may contribute to increasing the culture of technological innovation and knowledge management. Optimizing the quality of perioperative care processes involves the standardization of procedures related to the various stages of surgical patient care, the use of specific learning tools, and compliance with national and international hospital accreditation standards for Surgical Centers and Surgical Intensive Care Units. In addition to targeting patient safety and reducing surgical morbidity and mortality, encouraging technological innovation and the use of these technologies in the context of perioperative care processes may contribute to the development of the healthcare industrial complex in Brazil.
